Rutland has a growing population of older residents, and we want to help them live independently and happily in their own homes for longer and more safely. Given the rural nature of our county, it is easy to feel a long way from services and getting support for small jobs can be costly and often difficult. If you are in any way handy with a toolbox, paintbrush or strimmer and would like to support our community, this opportunity is the perfect way to spend a few hours a week.
This is a needs-based service, where Voluntary Action Rutland is looking to support frail, vulnerable, elderly or disabled residents with simple household or garden tasks that are difficult to do themselves and sometimes prohibitively expensive to get professional support for. Dodgy hinges, squeaky gates, flickering lightbulbs and the occasional dripping tap. All can be difficult and even dangerous to fix yourself if you are frail, but very expensive with call out fees for such small jobs.
You can volunteer as much or as little as you would like to and we pay mileage to complete jobs and cover the costs of any materials used.
For more than 45 years, Voluntary Action Rutland, VAR, have been providing rural transportation, and a wealth of additional services to Rutland in, including Social Lunches, Helping Hands Services, Young Volunteering, Emergency Funding, an annual Christmas Appeal and we support the wider voluntary & community sector in the county with support and signposting.
The VAR offices are Voluntary Action Rutland, Suite 10, Unit 16a, Oakham Enterprise Park, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 7TU. However the tasks will be conducted at the clients premises.
