Darbar Arts Culture & Heritage Trust

Overview:

Darbar is a UK-based charity dedicated to sharing the richness of Indian classical music and arts with audiences around the world. Founded in memory of tabla maestro Bhai Gurmit Singh Ji Virdee, Darbar brings together tradition and innovation to celebrate, preserve, and promote both Hindustani and Carnatic music forms. Through concerts, education, digital media, and outreach, Darbar offers deeply enriching experiences that resonate across generations and cultures.

At the heart of Darbar’s work is the annual Darbar Festival—Europe’s premier Indian classical music festival—held every autumn in iconic London venues. It showcases world-renowned musicians and rising stars, delivering powerful performances that range from meditative ragas to dynamic rhythm showcases. The festival also features artist talks, yoga and music sessions, family-friendly events, and workshops that immerse audiences in the depth and beauty of Indian classical traditions.

Darbar’s impact extends beyond the stage. The Culture Festival—the digital arm of the live festival—provides global access to nearly 1,000 high-quality concert recordings, documentaries, interviews, and learning resources through the Darbar Player platform. This initiative brings the magic of Indian classical music to a wider audience, breaking down barriers of geography and access.

Volunteering with Darbar means becoming part of a vibrant, inclusive community passionate about music, culture, and heritage. Whether supporting live events, digital production, education, or audience engagement, our volunteers play a vital role in helping us deliver exceptional experiences and inspire new generations.

Join us and help shape the future of one of the world’s most profound musical traditions.
