We are a small group looking after a one-acre forest garden in
Thurmaston, in a sustainable and nature friendly way. We want to involve more people in our project and to share the work and the joy of this special place.
Why we need you
The forest garden is productive, biodiverse and beautiful. Parts of it are strip beds, there is a full size poly tunnel, there is a small orchard and a hazel coppice, and parts of it are a little wild. We want to maintain the garden in a good state, grow crops/useful plants/foods and create spaces that can be used by people to enjoy nature and the many benefits this can bring.
There is always lots to do and a wide variety of light and heavy tasks. We take turns with heavier tasks and long jobs, and always encourage breaks whatever we are doing.
We garden in harmony with nature and people. We garden together on alternate Sundays, and sometimes other days. We have a tea break with regular tea and coffee on offer, plus ‘garden tea’, a range of snacks and interesting chats.
You could come on your own, with a friend or family member and we welcome ‘corporate volunteer groups’ from time to time.
