Our Social Car Scheme is a door to door service operated by Volunteer Drivers, for frail, elderly, disabled and vulnerable people in Rutland who have difficulty in traveling independently around the area. Join our team of amazing volunteer drivers, the largest in Rutland.
We are in constant need of additional drivers to provide transport for frail elderly, disabled and vulnerable adults in Rutland to make essential journeys and join in social activities. Using your own car you will be part of a team that help our most vulnerable residents to access healthcare, GP, Dental, and social appointments, not to mention access to shops and amenities. Despite having over 70 volunteer drivers, we turn down dozens of drives every month for lack of drivers.
You decide how often you drive and what journeys you accept, a generous mileage allowance is paid to cover out of pocket expenses when using your own car. Journeys will be offered to you with as much notice as possible, and you are free to accept as many or as few as you wish.
Whether you drive once a month or 5 times a week, every mile you drive can make a huge difference to some of our county’s most vulnerable residents as you help them. You will be supporting a vital needs-based service for the residents of Rutland and it is a great way to meet new people and support your local community.

Our funders ask us to report on the age, gender, ethnicity and location of volunteers who use our service. All reporting is anonymous.
